Where Winds Meet, one year on: what changed since launch
Five updates, two new regions and a city of 10,000 NPCs. A check-in on the wuxia open world before its first anniversary.

Where it started
Where Winds Meet, from Everstone Studio and NetEase, launched on 14 November 2025 on PC through Steam, Epic and its own client, and on PS5. It is a wuxia open world set in ancient China. You fight with swords and spears, but also with fans and umbrellas, which says a lot about the tone. Kaifeng is the anchor city, and the studio says it holds more than 10,000 NPCs.

The updates, in order
- 1.4, Home Afar (March 2026): the Hexi region.
- 2.0, Unseen Approach (22 July 2026): Hidden Mountain.
- 2.1, Clouded Revelation (9 September) and 2.2, Perilous Eminence (16 September).
- 2.3, Friends from Afar (15 October).
That pace, with four numbered updates between July and October, is the main thing to know. The game you can install today has a lot more in it than the one that launched. Hexi and Hidden Mountain are the two headline regions; the autumn updates added their own content on top.
Solo or with three friends
You can play the whole thing alone or in co-op with up to four players. The weapons are the part people talk about. A fan or an umbrella handles differently from a sword, and switching between them is part of learning the game. Co-op does not change that; it just gives you three more people to learn next to. If your friends did not stick with the game, the solo path still carries you through.

The honest part: menus
The systems take a while to learn. There are a lot of menus, and the game does not always explain which ones matter in the first hours. If you bounced off it at launch for that reason, the problem has not gone away, and the content added since launch does not simplify them either. Give yourself a few evenings before you decide.
Will it run on your PC?
A GTX 1060 is the minimum. For the high end, the studio points at an RTX 2070 Super. The install is around 130 GB, so check your SSD before you start the download.
One year in, Where Winds Meet is a bigger game with the same rough edges. If the wuxia setting appeals to you, that trade is worth it. It is free on PC through Steam, Epic or the official client.
