Star Trek Fleet Command: why the alliance is the real game
A space strategy game where you build a starbase and collect well-known ships, and where playing alone only gets you so far.

A strategy game, not a flight sim
Star Trek Fleet Command, from Scopely, is a space strategy game set in the Star Trek universe. The first thing to understand is what it is not. You do not fly the ships in real time. You give orders, send fleets out and manage the base. If you wanted to sit in the chair and steer, this is the wrong game. If you wanted to run a fleet, keep reading. The ships and characters are the official ones (TM & © CBS Studios).

Build the base, collect the names
Your starbase is where progress lives. You upgrade it, and the upgrades open the way to more ships and officers. The collection side is the hook: the ships and officers are the well-known ones from the franchise. Putting a crew you recognise on a ship you recognise is a large part of what keeps people logging in. It is a collection that grows as the base does.
Then join an alliance
Alliances control territory. That is the layer the base-building leads to, and most of the game is organised around it. Holding territory is a group effort by design.
- An alliance lets you take and hold territory with other players.
- Working with other players is how territory gets held.
- Without an active one, your own progress slows down a lot.

The honest part: solo is slow
Progress without an active alliance is slow. The game is built for groups, and the pace reflects it. You can build your base and collect ships on your own, but the game will keep reminding you that the territory layer exists, and you will move more slowly than the players in an organised group. Go in knowing that, and look for an alliance early rather than late. A small alliance that talks is better for you than a large one that does not.
Will it run on your PC?
Star Trek Fleet Command runs on Windows and Mac, and there is a mobile version as well. Because it is a strategy game with a mobile version, it is unlikely to be the heaviest game on your machine, but we do not list detailed requirements here. Check the official store page before you install rather than taking our word for it.
If you want to run a fleet with a group rather than fly a ship alone, this is the game for that. It is free on PC.
