Rise of Kingdoms on PC: picking your first civilization
What a civilization changes, how commanders work and why the alliance decides your endgame, before your first march.

One map, thousands of players
Rise of Kingdoms is a strategy MMO from Lilith Games. You start with a small city on a huge map that every player on your server shares. Armies do not teleport into battle: you send them out and watch them march in real time, and anyone can see them coming. That single detail shapes everything else, from where you gather resources to who you choose as neighbours.

What a civilization actually changes
Your first real choice is a civilization, drawn from history: Rome, Greece, Egypt and others, with Ancient Egypt the most recent addition. Each one has its own special unit, its own city style and a few bonuses that lean towards a way of playing, such as faster gathering or stronger troops of one type. None of them locks you out of the game, and the first pick is not a trap. Choose the one whose bonus matches how you like to play, or simply the one you find most interesting to look at for the next hundred hours.

Commanders: the people who lead your armies
Every army is led by a commander, and the roster is a who’s who of history: Sun Tzu, Julius Caesar, Joan of Arc and many more. Commanders level up, unlock skills and work best in pairs. You earn them through play and events; spending mostly gets them faster. Early on, focus on a few rather than spreading your resources across everyone you unlock.
Why the alliance matters most
You can grow alone for a while, but the game opens up when you join an alliance. Members share territory, help each other build faster and fight over the map together. The honest part: the endgame belongs to organised, active alliances, and casual players will feel the difference. If you want a game for ten minutes now and then, it still works; just pick a friendly alliance rather than the strongest one.

Timers and spending
Buildings and research run on timers that get longer as your city grows. That is the classic rhythm of the genre, and it is also where the shop tries to tempt you. Everything can be reached by playing. Treat the timers as a reason to check in a few times a day, queue the next upgrade and leave.
Will it run on your PC?
Rise of Kingdoms was built to run on phones, so it is light by PC standards: most Windows PCs from recent years can run it. It also exists on Mac, iOS and Android, and your account can move between devices. Rise of Kingdoms is free on Windows through the official client.
